GLENELLA OPEN DAY

As we celebrate 10 years at Glenella, we reflect on how much our space has changed and improved, and how much hard work and effort has been put into it. We’ve had so much support (and fun times!) from guests and helpers worldwide, all making Glenella what it is today and being part of our journey. 

On February 15th, we’re inviting you to walk through this unique and iconic property to see how we’ve restored its heritage style over the past 10 years. There will be talks about Glenella’s history and info about it’s new identity as a Heritage House. Please pop by!

Over the years Margaret and Rowan have been transitioning Glenella away from operating as a traditional guesthouse with restaurant. Having observed the popularity of guesthouses (or B&Bs) fading, and traveller requirements changing, they trialled a few different options, finally settling on offering Glenella exclusively to groups.  

With 15 bedrooms and sleeping up to 30, Glenella is the perfect size for family reunions, walking groups, quilting workshops, corporate off-sites, wellness retreats, and more. It’s large commercial-style kitchen is very popular with “Christmas in July” celebrations, for those wishing to cook up a long lunch for friends, or that special birthday dinner.  

To celebrate and reflect on the history of Glenella, we showcase historical information in the building as a reminder that it represented a special place in Blue Mountains tourism during the heyday of guesthouses. Originally built as a family home in 1905, Glenella started offering spare rooms to travellers in 1909. In 1915 it was expanded into a fully operational guesthouse accommodating up to 60 people with 3 meals a day plus afternoon tea!

With it’s fascinating 120 year history, local historian Wayne Hanley was attracted to delve into the property’s past and to produce a comprehensive book covering Glenella and Blackheath. He will be sharing a few stories about Glenella’s past with us at 11am and 2pm at our Open Day. Don’t miss this!

As part of celebrating our 10 years at Glenella, we’re offering a giveaway of a 2-night mid-week stay for up to 13 guests.

  • 2 nights mid-week exclusive use of Glenella
  • includes 7 bedrooms with ensuites, kitchen, grand lounge with fireplace, dining area, sitting area, front verandah, rear deck, and on-site parking for 6 cars. 
  • Option to upgrade to the full house of all 15 bedrooms and a maximum of 30 guests, or add on extra nights for an extra fee. 
  • Entries close on 15th February 2025 at 2pm.
  • Winner drawn at 3pm at our Open Day.
